New Restaurants in Pasadena: A Colorado Boulevard Dining Route

Several times a week, lobster and shellfish leave the family-owned processing facility on Boston's Historic Fish Pier and end up at 927 East Colorado Boulevard. The Daily Catch, the North End seafood restaurant the Freddura family opened in 1973, had never operated outside Boston until it took over the former Japon Bistro space in Playhouse Village. Its pasta still arrives in the pan it was sautéed in. That habit began decades ago because the original kitchen had no plates.

The Daily Catch is one of several arrivals with the same résumé line. Tosakko Ramen & Yakitori is a first U.S. location. Mammoth Coffee Roasting Co. is a first franchise location. Between them they make a case that Pasadena has become the city where brands with one address, or a handful in one place, decide to try a second market. On a map, two of those bets fall along Colorado Boulevard, while Mammoth Coffee is on Fair Oaks Avenue.

Read Colorado Boulevard by Address

A City economic development report reviewed in mid-August 2026 counted seven new food and drink businesses, five of them opened since July. They sat on Colorado Boulevard, California Boulevard, Fair Oaks Avenue, Cordova Street and Lake Avenue. Colorado Boulevard is only one of five streets on that list, but it carries the most names. The table below includes recent arrivals beyond the report’s count. Sorted by street number, they make a walking route:

Address Place What's new about it
38 W. Colorado Blvd. Love Baked Wings Baked wings and fries in the former Jake's Burger space
115 E. Colorado Blvd. Tierra Caliente Soft opened July 24
183 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Suite 40 Mammoth Coffee Roasting Co. First franchise of a Mammoth Lakes coffee company, opened July 20
245 E. Colorado Blvd. Tosakko Ramen & Yakitori First U.S. location of a Tokyo ramen brand
263 E. Colorado Blvd. Milk Brew Coffee steeped in milk overnight, grand opening Aug. 1 and 2
635 E. Colorado Blvd. KazuNori Hand-roll bar from the team behind Sugarfish
865 E. Colorado Blvd. Lunasia Signature Dim sum concept relocated to this address
927 E. Colorado Blvd., Suite 102 The Daily Catch First location outside Boston

Read top to bottom, the table crosses Old Pasadena, passes the Civic Center, and ends in Playhouse Village. Tosakko sits near Pasadena's Convention Center and City Hall, with Milk Brew just up the boulevard at 263. The Playhouse Village Association's own listing of newcomers puts The Daily Catch, KazuNori and Lunasia Signature in the same stretch, so the eastern end of the route is already an established cluster.

Two more names sit just off the boulevard. Levant Mediterranean Oven & Grill held its grand opening July 8 at 117 W. California Blvd. in the Orangewood Center. Dalah, a contemporary Thai restaurant at 851 Cordova St., is run by two sisters. It is not a first for any brand, and reviewers describe it as easy to walk into without a reservation.

What Each First Brought With It

Tosakko's about page traces the brand to the 1960s, when founder Minoru Yasuda sold ramen from a pushcart on Tokyo's Ring Road No. 7. That road is known locally as "Kan-Nana." The brand says its first Tokyo shop went on to sell more than 1,400 bowls a day. Its expansion list is short and specific: Paris in 2023, Shanghai in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2025. Pasadena is where a Tokyo ramen name that had opened in Paris and Shanghai chose to enter the United States. At 245 E. Colorado, the kitchen serves tonkotsu ramen with a broth built on backfat, simmered for hours. The yakitori is grilled over binchotan charcoal, and diners at the bar can watch the chefs work the skewers.

The Daily Catch brought a different kind of supply chain. Boston seafood is flown in multiple times each week, and the menu leans on calamari prepared seven ways, lobster fra diavolo and squid ink pasta. Theo Freddura, a Los Angeles-based son of founder Paul Freddura, is general manager of the Pasadena restaurant. According to a report picked up from the Boston Globe, this location adds a raw bar with seating that the original does not have. Reservations go through Tock.

Mammoth Coffee Roasting Co. is the quietest of the three. The shop at 183 N. Fair Oaks serves coffee and pastries. What makes it a first is the model: this is the company's first franchise location.

Star Leaf, in Playhouse Village, was also a first U.S. location when it opened, and it marked its first anniversary earlier this year. That gives the east end of the boulevard two U.S. debuts within a few blocks of each other.

Planning Around the Dark Days

The firsts bring their own calendars, and two of them overlap in a way that matters for a Tuesday. Tosakko is closed Tuesdays. Dalah is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and open Wednesday through Sunday. The posted hours at both places also break between lunch and dinner. Tosakko runs 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays except Tuesday, and Dalah keeps the same split. On Saturday and Sunday, Tosakko stays open straight through from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

That gives a few concrete plans:

  • A weekday ramen lunch, on a day Tosakko is open, has to land before 3 p.m., or wait until 5.
  • A late Saturday or Sunday afternoon is when Tosakko is open with no midday closure.
  • A Tuesday night rules out both Civic Center newcomers, so Playhouse Village is the place to look.
  • A Wednesday through Sunday dinner at Dalah works without a reservation, going by the two sisters' room as reviewers describe it.

Hours change quickly at new restaurants, and these come from listings and the restaurants' own sites. A call before a first visit costs a minute.

One newcomer has not yet earned a spot on the route. Paris Baguette was named as a coming Paseo tenant in December 2025, with an opening expected by summer 2026. I could not confirm that it has opened, so it stays off the table until it does.

The address list at the top of this post is the clearest summary of the season. A Tokyo ramen name and a Boston seafood family each picked a Colorado Boulevard address for a first, while a Mammoth Lakes coffee company chose Fair Oaks Avenue. The Colorado street numbers run from 38 West to 927 East.
